Wymering Manor, a 16th Century house in Cosham, Portsmouth, UK, is used as a case study to examine the ways in which subjective experiences can be represented in the future of city making. The house is currently in a state of ruination, the richness of its surfaces, the smell of damp, the crumbling timber and dust made by larvae beetle slowly eating away at its core all create an overwhelming sense of affect. New digital technologies are used to rethink the tangible and intangible effects of the house and create magical transitions between the body, imagination and place. I wanted to signify that humanity is having a devastating effect on animals on every trophic level of the food chain and that this is causing an imbalance in the natural order, therefore threatening endangerment for many species. <br />Nicola Hayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06471250577977241177noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7290016843077688907.post-20199224082884258212022-04-09T09:09:00.009+01:002022-04-13T13:04:50.557+01:00AR experiment - See Kirsten's image through your phone using the Artivive app!<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieCJpSB3cWE9_L6AoDdXx-gXaLwbIK9yvIKjmyHmAMRqFWy1WS9PWGQ2xt1Y-APFjAbZzyFxRTGGWOnIA4rXyYXZmT1dUAvDdZg2Jomk-GTmNfAtHihe3aL3NqdvpF5NcxO7iUEjgpdjr9PMByV8tJJNNJJNU6_Z3Se1hqfDZtwgCFGdK7zX488ZNOtQ/s1364/final%20artwork.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="541" data-original-width="1364" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieCJpSB3cWE9_L6AoDdXx-gXaLwbIK9yvIKjmyHmAMRqFWy1WS9PWGQ2xt1Y-APFjAbZzyFxRTGGWOnIA4rXyYXZmT1dUAvDdZg2Jomk-GTmNfAtHihe3aL3NqdvpF5NcxO7iUEjgpdjr9PMByV8tJJNNJJNU6_Z3Se1hqfDZtwgCFGdK7zX488ZNOtQ/s320/final%20artwork.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Artwork credit; Kirsten Randall</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">View the above artwork using the <a href="https://artivive.com/" target="_blank">Artivive app</a> to see it come alive</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihc5WS0OPdYrNjapeHMegUdY2LscEUIkguvgTa4YubSd7uapOQY4wz2QHsQzof266OyBmB5NliuPcbFpIXjn73Ed_h2oLxLYpIFeZhI6vAonta7121d_-mG28IC2fALDrW-OiE6eqD-s2V8DcnK0LL2qYF1uIuCTTHfPts_6OhzQC_sMFmwNOyt2goCA/s1412/9771FFBF-42A1-41E6-A4D7-423BAAE788E8.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="901" data-original-width="1412" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihc5WS0OPdYrNjapeHMegUdY2LscEUIkguvgTa4YubSd7uapOQY4wz2QHsQzof266OyBmB5NliuPcbFpIXjn73Ed_h2oLxLYpIFeZhI6vAonta7121d_-mG28IC2fALDrW-OiE6eqD-s2V8DcnK0LL2qYF1uIuCTTHfPts_6OhzQC_sMFmwNOyt2goCA/s320/9771FFBF-42A1-41E6-A4D7-423BAAE788E8.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Nicola Hayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06471250577977241177noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7290016843077688907.post-79215750999628592672022-04-08T17:35:00.002+01:002022-04-12T17:55:59.362+01:00Ogre-Faced Spider Hunting Behaviour - Tara Hughes<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi26w_niF-jtsneX22-76_HavmqgNAPfwRpCTeZMKIWw9JUmIjLG5Eljxg5ii0j-UWJe7Mjd1FRNaDO_-Lu6T0Aa0GxNErLOPDxJnWp7O0CN_qYGib86-eq3zAhhxSsFcgEyB_lGTfnQfVsVN0GPqLGo6DwHoLhqIrI__DQwstnJcZ9Zt1-qdkEDuEg8w/s1172/tara.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="829" data-original-width="1172" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi26w_niF-jtsneX22-76_HavmqgNAPfwRpCTeZMKIWw9JUmIjLG5Eljxg5ii0j-UWJe7Mjd1FRNaDO_-Lu6T0Aa0GxNErLOPDxJnWp7O0CN_qYGib86-eq3zAhhxSsFcgEyB_lGTfnQfVsVN0GPqLGo6DwHoLhqIrI__DQwstnJcZ9Zt1-qdkEDuEg8w/s320/tara.png" width="320" /></a></div><p></p>I chose to theme my sequence around spiders as they are often represented as somewhat distasteful. They repel most people with their intimidatingly disproportionate bodies and legs. But the spider can be beautiful. I found out that compared to today’s domestic dogs cats haven’t changed much genetically from their ancestors. I wanted to show the two sides of the domestic cat in this zine, the wild and the tame and how they seem to coexist in our furry friends. I used both drypoint etching and ink and brush to create the two styles of illustration, joined together by dos á dos binding. There is a cat flap between the two sections to show the transition from wild predator to tame lap cat that happens with our domestic cats.Nicola Hayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06471250577977241177noreply@blogger.com0
